|A unique experience in an outstanding setting! Set in the shadow of the mediaevel Skipness Castle and offering spectacular views of the Isle of Arran, Skipness Seafood Cabin serves the best in freshly caught seafood, shellfish, home-baking and local beers/fine wines.|
The cabin combines the freshest seafood with a view you just would not believe until you have seen it! The cabin is licensed and serves local beers and a selection of wines. A visit to the cabin is an absolute must for anyone touring the Kintyre area. We very much look forward to welcoming you.
Open 11am to 7pm every day, except Saturdays, from the last weekend of May to the end of September.
Sophie James has been successfully running the Seafood Cabin for over twenty years, making it a by-word for a consistently excellent eating experience. The cabin offers a mouth-watering selection of the freshest, locally sourced, seafood and shellfish as well as homegrown salads and home-baking, all grown, cooked or presented by Sophie herself. Little wonder then that the cabin has developed an international army of followers and devotees who return season after season to this remote spot on the west coast of Scotland. New customers are quickly converted and become advocates of the delights of the cabin and its' spectacular setting looking across Kilbrannan Sound to the brooding island of Arran.
|Salmon Platter - four types of the finest Scottish salmon: smoked salmon, hot-smoked salmon (where the fish has been smoked with heat - superb!), gravadlax (salmon marinated with sea-salt and served with a dill/mustard sauce), and poached salmon (cooked salmon). All of our salmon comes from the RSPCA inspected farm on Loch Duart and is smoked to perfection at Creelers Smokehouse on Arran.|
A plate of Langoustines - these large prawns are landed in the morning at the local harbour in Tarbert and cooked at the cabin. We serve them whole with a salad garnish, you get the whole beast, a few dips you might like to try and a selection of tools with which to tackle them.
Scallops - King Scallops (a delicate creamy sauce served on a bed of fresh salad), and the delictable Queenies (smaller scallops grilled in a parsley and garlic marinade)...yummy and a firm favourite with the staff as well as customers.
Moules Marinieres - a big bowl of mussels served steaming hot in a cream base that just cries out for bread to dip into it.
Crab Salad - a hugely popular choice at the cabin and something for which we have become famous (hence the 'Crab Shack' reference you may find on other websites and books). We serve both the pure white meat and the brown meat (with fresh herbs and breadcrumbs which make the brown meat almost a pate).
The Seafood Platter - real treat! A generous selection of most of the above, as well as local oysters. The perfect way to enjoy a taste of Skipness.
Grilled Kippers - one of Loch Fyne's finest, grilled to perfection with a dollop of melted butter to finish it off.
This is just a sample of some of the many delights on offer for your visit to the cabin. There are also old favourites like oysters and filled rolls (cheese, tuna mayonnaise, salad, even fishfingers!), or any of the above as a salad. We also have a take-away menu of filled-rolls, kippers and salmon.
There are fine wines, local beers, soft drinks, tea, coffee and cider with cakes and ice cream to follow.
Skipness Seafood Cabin is a member of the Seafood Trail, a collection of venues offering seafood in Argyll. Visit Seafood Trail for further information.
No surprise then that the national press have followed the winding road across Kintyre to the cabin. 'THE TIMES' included the cabin in the Top 50 venues in Britain for eating outdoors. 'THE OBSERVER' listed the cabin in its' Good Food Guide. The cabin has also featured in many other newspapers and magazines such as The Week, The List, Glasgow Herald, Scotsman, Coast, Country Living as well as appearing on television's "Landward" programme.
